Diabetes is Not Just Suger Understanding its Hidden Impact

Diabetes is a condition that occurs when the body either does not produce enough insulin or is unable to use the insulin it produces. Insulin is the hormone that helps glucose (sugar) enter the cells to be used as energy. When this process fails, the sugar builds up in the bloodstream, causing damage to the blood vessels and nerves over time. This is where the silent danger begins. If left unchecked, diabetes can quietly damage the heart, kidneys, eyes, brain, and even feet.

The first and most dangerous consequence of diabetes is heart disease. People with diabetes are more likely to develop high blood pressure, clogged arteries, and heart attacks and strokes. The kidneys are also at high risk. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of kidney failure because high sugar levels damage the tiny filtering units. The eyes are also at risk, leading to diabetic retinopathy, which can lead to blindness if left untreated.
